Marilyn Monroe screenprint by Andy Warhol, circa 1970
REF: 7792
Screenprint depicting the iconic portrait of Marilyn Monroe, produced after Andy Warhol's original work and representative of his exploration of celebrity imagery in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
The composition is built through the superimposition of bold color fields, acid green, bright yellow, red and pink, combined with clearly visible mechanical halftone patterns. Facial features appear intentionally fragmented, with areas of saturation, misregistration and uneven texture, all characteristic of Warhol's screenprinting process. Variations in ink density and surface effects, particularly in the hair and facial contours, confirm a multi-layer silkscreen technique.
This work belongs to the Marilyn portrait series, one of the most emblematic bodies of work in American Pop Art, in which Warhol questioned image reproduction, mass culture and the construction of modern icons.
