Designer
Pair of "Costes" armchairs designed by Philippe Starck for Aleph Driade, Italy, circa 1984.
Black lacquered tubular steel frame combined with a curved plywood shell finished in black, padded and upholstered in black leather. Originally created for Café Costes in Paris, the model is defined by its three-legged base, a technical solution conceived to facilitate cleaning and movement within the space. The design balances formal clarity with controlled comfort, resulting in a silhouette that became emblematic of 1980s design. Early editions, such as this pair, do not feature the rear cut-out introduced in later versions.
