- Paul Pouchol
Decorative ceramic plaque created by Paul Pouchol in Vallauris during the 1950s.
Square in shape, it features a lightly sculpted mythological figure accompanied by a fantastic animal. Nuanced green, brown and black glazes stand out against a textured light background, reflecting the Mediterranean spirit characteristic of postwar Vallauris ceramics.
The treatment of relief and glazing gives the piece a sculptural quality reminiscent of the decorative wall panels produced by ceramic artists of the period.
