Designer

  • Marc Held

Dining room set designed by Marc Held for Bessière in 1983, created for the IBM headquarters cafeteria in Montpellier, France.

The set includes a rectangular white melamine table with solid beech edges, supported by cylindrical legs in black lacquered metal and beech, and four matching chairs in molded exotic wood and beech plywood. Each chair features a metal fitting under the seat, allowing it to hook into the table's cut-out openings, an ingenious system conceived to lift the chairs off the floor for easy cleaning, in keeping with Held's rational and architectural approach to design.

Designed for IBM, this rare ensemble embodies the clarity, modularity and elegance that define Marc Held's contribution to French modernist furniture of the 1980s.
