  • Kou Wakabayashi

Wood sculpture carved directly with a gouge by Kou Wakabayashi. Kou Wakabayashi belongs to a generation of postwar Japanese sculptors exploring direct carving and the dialogue between traditional craftsmanship and modern formal research. His work is distinguished by its rhythmic construction and tactile relationship to material.

Carved from a single block of solid wood, the composition is structured around a central circular volume flanked by angular lateral planes. The surfaces retain the visible rhythm of the gouge marks, emphasizing both gesture and material presence. The balance between solid masses and taut lines gives the piece a strong architectural character.

Unique signed work.
