Oval glazed earthenware dish by Menelika, Geneva, circa 1950

REF: 8044

Oval glazed earthenware dish made by Poterie d'art Menelika in Geneva, circa 1950.

The dish features a dark brown glaze enriched with a stylised bird decoration in pink, pale yellow and black tones. The motif, treated with great graphic freedom, is placed at the centre of the dish and interacts with a rhythmic border of pink and dark accents.

Founded in Geneva in 1924 by Hélène Imbert-Amoudruz and Charles Imbert, Poterie d'art Menelika contributed to the renewal of Swiss ceramics between the wars and after 1945, with a production marked by a naive, poetic and highly personal spirit.
