Fiberglass stool by Jean-Raymond Picard, circa 1955

REF: 8128

Tripod fiberglass stool designed by Jean-Raymond Picard in France, circa 1955.

Considered one of the very first, if not the first French stool made of fiberglass, this model reflects the experimentation carried out in the 1950s around new composite materials. At that time, glass-fibre reinforced polyester was still rarely used in furniture, before becoming more widely adopted in design, boatbuilding and the automotive industry.

The slightly concave beige seat reveals the visible fibers of the material and shows a beautiful parchment-like patina. It rests on a slender black lacquered steel tripod base, giving the piece a light and graphic presence.

Model produced by S.E.T.A., a French interior company, alongside the fiberglass chair designed by Jean-Raymond Picard.

France, circa 1955.
